The Idealistic Things I Believe.

I'm 19 and trying to make the most of this prime-numbered year of my life.

Things learned after a weekend away

-we have the capacity to operate on a lot less sleep than we tend to think
-however, it’s a bad academic decision to get zero hours of sleep before a morning class, having not really touched school work over the weekend
-at the Iron Skillet they do, in fact, serve all food in real iron skillets
-the St. Louis Arch is really majestic, even from the freeway
-stereotypes and generalizations serve a very important purpose
-that being said, people from the Mid-West seem to be genuinely nice
-watching the sun rise and sun set in the same day from the freeway is a really organic experience
-Louisiana is flat, Mississippi is green, Tennessee is pretty, Arkansas is nondescript, Missouri is a big fan of the Jesus-themed billboard and Illinois is bland and gray
-proving that you can do things that are extreme aberrations in terms of what you usually do is not nearly as satisfying as you think it’ll be
-driving for stretches alone in the middle of the night through places you’ve never been is really quite a special thing
-sometimes the things you plan on being fun are not quite as special as the surprise things that come up
-driving across the country with two friends, and consequently having 26 hours of conversation, has the potential to be a really informative experience
-there’s something really rewarding in knowing how big and diverse your network of friends is, and to be reminded of the fact that upon going to a college out of state, you learned how to start from scratch
-meeting strangers is so incredibly refreshing
-as is having a car, crossing state lines, merging on the freeway, cooking dinner for new friends, hearing your voice echo, pickle juice
-Tulane feels much like less a real college than a big school does
-for drinking games to be fun, they should employ as many people as possible
-more than loud music or caffeine to keep you awake at 2 am during a dangerously long car drive, friends are more important
-colleges are so, so different from one another
-it is possible to drive 26 hours in a four day period for no reason beyond the desire to be spontaneous, wield independence and experience things
